NDA Secures Clear Majority in Puducherry Assembly Elections, Wins 18 of 30 Seats
The National Democratic Alliance secures a decisive victory in the Puducherry Assembly elections, winning 18 of 30 seats. The All India NR Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party cross the majority mark, while the opposition Secular Progressive Alliance falls short. Leaders highlight governance, infrastructure growth, and electoral mandate.
Within the alliance, the All India NR Congress led by N. Rangasamy secured 12 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party won 4 seats, together ensuring a stable governing majority. This performance reflects an improvement over the 2021 elections, when the alliance first dislodged the Indian National Congress from power in Puducherry.
The opposition Secular Progressive Alliance managed to secure only 6 seats, falling short of expectations amid what was widely viewed as strong anti-incumbency sentiment. The electoral outcome underscores a clear preference among voters for the ruling alliance’s governance agenda.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the election results, describing them as an endorsement of effective governance. Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party also highlighted the so-called “double engine” development model, emphasizing infrastructure expansion, including improved roads and port facilities as key priorities for the region.
In a closely watched constituency result, N. Rangasamy retained his seat in Thattanchavady with a margin of 4,441 votes, reinforcing his political stronghold within the region.
The election outcome is expected to shape administrative continuity and policy direction in Puducherry, with the NDA now positioned to further strengthen its governance framework in the Union Territory.
