Punjab Defence Services Welfare Minister Reviews Progress on Veteran Compensation and Departmental Reforms
Defence Services Welfare Minister Mr. Mohinder Bhagat led a high-level review at the Punjab Civil Secretariat to assess the progress of welfare works for ex-servicemen. Joined by Principal Secretary Sumer Singh Gurjar and Director Bhupinder Singh Dhillon (Retd.), the meeting focused on martyred soldiers' compensation, expedited hiring for vacant posts, and departmental budget status.
During the deliberations, senior officers apprised the Minister of the substantial progress achieved in addressing cases concerning ex-servicemen and their families, marking a significant milestone in the department’s service delivery. A primary focus of the meeting centered on the disbursement of compensation to the families of soldiers martyred in various wars, with officials confirming that the Punjab Government has already provided financial assistance to the vast majority of these households. The Minister engaged in a meticulous review of the remaining cases, examining their current status in detail to identify and resolve any lingering bureaucratic bottlenecks.
The administrative overhaul extended beyond compensation, as the Minister was further informed that the process of filling vacant posts within the department is being expedited to bolster operational capacity.
