INS Trikand Docks in Mombasa to Deepen India-Kenya Maritime Cooperation
INS Trikand arrives in Mombasa, Kenya, boosting India-Kenya maritime cooperation. The visit includes naval engagements, PASSEX exercise, and high-level interactions, highlighting growing defence ties and strategic collaboration in the Southwest Indian Ocean Region.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said that the port call coincides with the visit of Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, to Kenya. The coordinated presence underscores a focused diplomatic and naval engagement between the two nations.
The Ministry further added that professional, cultural and social engagements will be progressed during the stay, alongside the handing over of essential stores to the Kenya Defence Forces. These activities are aimed at fostering operational collaboration and reinforcing mutual support frameworks.
Additionally, the ship’s Commanding Officer will call on senior government functionaries, facilitating high-level interactions that reflect the growing strategic partnership between India and
Kenya.
On departure from Mombasa, INS Trikand will engage in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with units of the Kenya Navy, enhancing interoperability and maritime readiness between the two forces.
The visit highlights India’s sustained commitment to regional maritime security and its expanding defence cooperation with Kenya, reinforcing shared interests in stability and collaboration across the Southwest Indian Ocean Region.
