Cyclone Moirasu to Make Landfall Between Nellore and Narasapur, Heavy Rain Alert Issued
Cyclone Moirasu is expected to make landfall between Nellore and Narasapur on November 3. Winds of 100-120 kmph, heavy rainfall, rough seas and possible damage threaten several states.
The centre of the storm was located 160 km east of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, 210 km southeast of Ongole, 180 km southeast of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, and 660 km south of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. As the system moves northwest towards the coastline, the intensity of Cyclone Moirasu is expected to increase further.
According to the warning, the cyclone is expected to cross the coast and make landfall between Nellore and Narasapur in the early hours of November 3. Heavy rainfall is likely across Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, southern Odisha, Telangana and Vidarbha.
Coastal areas are likely to experience strong winds reaching speeds of 100 to 120 kmph. The sea is also expected to become rough, with waves reaching heights of 1.5 to 3 metres. As a precautionary measure, fishermen have been warned against venturing into the deep sea for fishing.
The cyclone is expected to disrupt normal life, with the possibility of damage to both temporary and permanent houses, roads, foodgrain crops and fruit crops. Strong winds and heavy rainfall could uproot trees and cause power supply disruptions.
The Meteorological Department has also warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas due to rough sea conditions. With heavy rainfall, high-speed winds and rising sea waves expected along the affected regions, the approaching cyclone poses a significant threat to coastal communities, agriculture and essential infrastructure.
