A 29-year-old married IT engineer, Payal Pawar Zhambre, was found dead at her residence in the Mukundnagar area of Pune on Monday, November 2, triggering a major controversy. Payal, who was the daughter-in-law of the well-known Zhambre Palace family, was found dead inside her residential flat. Following the incident, her family accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to physical and mental harassment over demands for dowry, money and gold. Angry relatives also vandalised Zhambre Palace. Meanwhile, police have arrested her husband, Akshay Zhambre, and registered a case against her mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law.

What Exactly Happened in the Payal Pawar Zhambre Death Case?

Payal Akshay Zhambre was found dead inside a flat at Akshay Heights Society in Mukundnagar, Pune, on Monday, November 2. According to preliminary information, she is suspected to have died by suicide by hanging.

After receiving information about the incident, personnel from Swargate Police Station rushed to the spot. Police took custody of the body and sent it to Sassoon Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

However, after learning about Payal's death, her family members accused her in-laws of subjecting her to serious harassment. Her relatives also expressed suspicion that the incident might not have been a suicide and could involve foul play.

Her husband, Akshay Zhambare, mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law allegedly demanded money and gold from her. Payal's relatives have specifically alleged that she was asked to bring between five and ten tolas of gold from her parental home every year around Diwali.

According to the family, a similar demand was made this year as well. However, Payal's parents reportedly told her in-laws that they were unable to fulfil the demand because of their financial circumstances.

Payal's family belongs to the farming community and, citing drought conditions, had reportedly requested time until the next agricultural season to meet the demand. Despite this, the alleged harassment continued.

Her family claimed that repeated demands from her in-laws created severe mental pressure on Payal and that she continued to face harassment over the issue. However, the allegations are yet to be established, and their veracity will be determined through the police investigation.

What Happened Before Payal's Death?

According to preliminary information provided by the police, Payal had an argument with her mother-in-law on Sunday, November 1. Following the dispute, she reportedly left the house.

On the morning of Monday, November 2, a search was launched to locate her. While family members and relatives were looking for her, she was found dead inside a flat at Akshay Heights Society in the Mukundnagar area.

Reports indicate that police did not find any suicide note at the scene. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding her death, the alleged family dispute and the accusations of harassment.

Following the incident, Swargate Police arrested Payal's husband, Akshay Zhambare. A case has also been registered against Akshay, his mother, Mangal Arvind Zhambare, his father, Arvind Zhambare, and his sister, Akshata.

The case names all four family members in connection with the allegations raised by Payal's relatives. The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances leading to the 29-year-old IT engineer's death and examine the allegations of physical and mental harassment made by her parental family.
