Heavy Rain Triggers Road Collapse in Ghaziabad, Car and Scooter Plunge into Deep Pit
Heavy rainfall in Ghaziabad caused a road collapse near Atal Chowk in Vasundhara, sending a Tata Punch car and scooter into a pit. The incident occurred after soil slipped from a nearby construction site. Police halted traffic and vehicles were removed using a hydraulic crane as the IMD issued an orange alert.
The road section near Atal Chowk caved in after soil from a nearby construction site slipped due to heavy rainfall, weakening the ground and causing the surface to collapse. Two vehicles parked along the roadside, a Tata Punch car and a scooter, fell into the pit following the collapse. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Visuals from the site showed the two vehicles trapped beside the construction area, while debris continued to fall over them. Police were informed about the incident, and traffic movement was temporarily stopped in the affected area to ensure safety.
The trapped vehicles are being removed with the help of a hydraulic crane. The Tata Punch car carries a Haryana registration number, while the identity details of the scooter have not been confirmed yet.
The heavy rainfall has severely affected several parts of Ghaziabad and surrounding areas. In the 24-hour period between 8:30 am on Wednesday and 8:30 am on Thursday, Kamla Nehru Nagar in Ghaziabad recorded 164 mm of rainfall, while Hindon received 134 mm of rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds reaching 40-60 kmph, and moderate rainfall in several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Agra, Aligarh, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Hathras, Mathura, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, and Shamli.
The road collapse incident highlights the impact of extreme rainfall on urban infrastructure, as authorities continue to monitor affected areas and manage disruptions caused by the ongoing weather conditions.
