Nepal Delegation Visits CBFC Mumbai to Strengthen Bilateral Film Regulatory Cooperation
A 13-member Nepal delegation led by Bhuwan KC and Gajendra Kumar Thakur visited CBFC Mumbai to enhance bilateral cooperation in film certification and production. CBFC CEO Smita Vats Sharma detailed India’s certification process and digitization efforts, while NFDC MD Prithul Kumar discussed boosting film shooting opportunities in Nepal and strengthening industry collaboration.
The visit was aimed at fostering a closer working relationship between the film development and certification authorities of India and Nepal, with a focus on regulatory exchange and industry collaboration.
During the engagement, CBFC Chief Executive Officer Smita Vats Sharma provided a detailed presentation on the film certification process followed across multiple languages in India. She also highlighted provisions that allow filmmakers to directly interact with the board during the certification process, ensuring procedural transparency and clarity. Sharma further elaborated on ongoing digitization initiatives within the certification framework, designed to reduce manual intervention and streamline approvals.
Managing Director of the National Film Development Corporation, Prithul Kumar, outlined potential areas of cooperation in the film production sector. He also discussed strategic measures aimed at encouraging international production companies to consider Nepal as a filming destination, emphasizing its potential as an emerging hub for cinematic production activities.
The visit underscored a shared intent to deepen institutional linkages between India and Nepal in the audiovisual sector, with particular emphasis on regulatory collaboration, production facilitation, and digital modernization of certification systems.
