Audi RS 5 Confirmed for India Launch as First Hybrid RS Model with 639 hp Performance Powertrain
Audi has confirmed the India launch of the RS 5, its first hybridised RS model producing 639 hp and 825 Nm. Imported as a CBU, it features a 2.9L twin-turbo V6 with hybrid tech, triple-screen cabin, advanced RS styling, and 0–100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, expected at around Rs 1.5 crore.
Positioned as the first hybridised RS model globally, the Audi RS 5 combines high-performance engineering with electrification. It is expected to be priced at approximately Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom), significantly higher than the discontinued S5 Sportback, which last had a recorded price of Rs 73.57 lakh.
Powertrain and Performance
The Audi RS 5 introduces the brand’s first hybridised RS powertrain, delivering a combined output of 639 horsepower and 825 Nm of torque. The system pairs a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing 510 horsepower and 600 Nm with a plug-in hybrid unit generating 177 horsepower and 460 Nm.
Power is transmitted through an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, working alongside a limited-slip centre differential capable of distributing torque dynamically between axles. The system can direct up to 70 percent of torque to the front wheels or up to 85 percent to the rear wheels depending on driving conditions.
The hybrid system is supported by a 25.9 kWh battery pack, offering an electric-only driving range of more than 80 kilometres. An 11 kW charger enables a full charge in approximately 2.5 hours. The performance figures include a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 3.6 seconds.
Exterior Design and Hardware
The RS 5 features a bold exterior design with a large honeycomb grille integrated into aggressive front styling, complemented by smoked Matrix LED headlights with distinctive chequered-flag daytime running lights. Audi has widened the vehicle by 4 cm on each side compared to the base model, giving it a more muscular stance.
It comes equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels as standard, along with RS steel brakes featuring 420 mm front and 400 mm rear discs. Higher variants offer 21-inch wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes with larger 440 mm front and 410 mm rear discs.
The vehicle’s silhouette features a fastback-inspired roofline for the sedan and a sharply sloping rear design for the Avant. At the rear, connected OLED tail-lights, a gloss-black diffuser, and quad oval exhaust outlets form part of an updated RS exhaust system designed to enhance the driving soundtrack.
Interior and Features
The cabin adopts a performance-focused layout with an all-black theme highlighted by red accents and ambient lighting. It features a triple-screen configuration consisting of an 11.9-inch digital driver display, a 14.5-inch central OLED infotainment screen, and a 10.9-inch passenger display.
Traditional climate control buttons have been removed, with all settings integrated into the infotainment system. The steering wheel includes physical controls, dedicated RS drive mode buttons, and a boost function that delivers maximum acceleration for 10 seconds.
Interior materials include Dinamica suede upholstery on the dashboard, door panels, and armrests, while the steering wheel is wrapped in Nappa leather. The model also features heated, powered bucket seats with massage functionality. Seat ventilation and a sunroof are offered as optional features.
Market Position and India Launch Outlook
The Audi RS 5 will be imported as a CBU model, placing it in the ultra-premium performance sedan segment in India. It is expected to arrive alongside a broader Audi product rollout that includes models such as the Q3, Q5, Q6 e-tron, and A6 e-tron.
With its hybrid performance system, advanced digital cockpit, and aggressive RS design language, the RS 5 marks a significant shift in Audi’s performance strategy for the Indian market.
