Indian Air Force Suryakiran Aerobatic Display Lights Up Somnath as PM Modi Leads Grand Amrut Mahotsav Celebrations

Indian Air Force Suryakiran Team delivered a spectacular flypast during Somnath Amrut Mahotsav in Gujarat, with six Hawk jets performing precision formations over the Arabian Sea. PM Narendra Modi attended rituals, unveiled a ₹75 coin and postage stamp, while a Chetak helicopter showered petals, creating a powerful display of devotion, strength, and national pride.

The skies over Gujarat’s coastal region transformed into a dramatic spectacle of precision, devotion, and national pride as the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team delivered a breathtaking flypast during the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the ceremony and participated in the temple rituals, including ceremonial consecration bathing, flag worship ceremony, and grand worship, while also unveiling a ₹75 commemorative coin and a special postage stamp honouring the historic Somnath Temple.

The highlight of the event was the aerial display by the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team. Six Hawk Mk-132 fighter trainer aircraft executed flawless formations over the Somnath Temple and the Arabian Sea along the Gujarat coastline. As the jets manoeuvred in synchronised precision, they released trails of saffron, white, and green smoke, representing the colours of the Indian national flag. The smoke systems used in the display were indigenously developed at the Indian Air Force’s Nashik Base Repair Depot, adding a significant element of domestic technological achievement to the performance.

Adding a ceremonial touch to the aerial showcase, a Chetak helicopter showered flower petals over the temple complex, creating a visually striking and emotionally resonant moment for those gathered. The flypast continued for approximately 15 minutes and was witnessed by thousands of devotees, tourists, and local residents.

The formation was led by Group Captain Ajay Dasharathi, with operational coordination and support from nearly 30 Indian Air Force personnel who ensured the seamless execution of the event.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the occasion as a magnificent confluence of pride and valour, highlighting the enduring resilience of Somnath Temple, which has historically withstood multiple instances of destruction and reconstruction.

The event quickly gained widespread attention on social media, where visuals of the flypast circulated rapidly. Many viewers described the experience as emotionally powerful, with one remarking that faith had been lifted into the skies. Another observer noted that the combination of aerial precision and floral tribute made Somnath appear profoundly divine.

The Somnath skies, marked by coordinated aerial formations and ceremonial gestures, ultimately delivered a message of courage, devotion, and unity, leaving a lasting impression on all who witnessed the grand spectacle.
