Agra Mystery: Elderly Man Claiming NDA Teaching Past Found Living in Neglect as Authorities Probe Truth
An 80-year-old man in Agra, Santosh Goyal, claims to be a former National Defence Academy teacher but now lives in extreme poverty. After his story went viral, the Army intervened, providing treatment while investigating the truth behind his past, as doubts from locals deepen the mystery.
The case came to light after a video of Santosh Goyal surfaced on April 2. The footage, recorded by an unidentified individual and uploaded on social media, quickly went viral, drawing widespread attention and concern.
In the video, Goyal narrates his life story, claiming that he earned a PhD in English in 1971. He further asserts that he served as a teacher at the National Defence Academy located in Khadakwasla, Pune. According to him, he was associated with the Army Education Corps and taught cadets who later rose to ranks such as Lieutenant, Captain, Major, and even General in the Indian Army.
However, Goyal claims that his life took a devastating turn after approximately three years of service when he lost his eyesight. As a result, he says he was removed from his position. He adds that had he completed 15 years of service, he would have been entitled to a monthly pension of approximately 80,000 rupees.
Today, his condition is dire. He is visually impaired and has no teeth, making it difficult for him to consume even basic meals. He reportedly survives on food offerings such as sweets and simple items distributed at nearby community feeding events.
Following the viral video, authorities responded swiftly. Army personnel reached the Nagla Pati area, located Goyal, and took him into their care. He has since been admitted to a Command Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Simultaneously, officials have initiated a verification process to establish the authenticity of his claims.
Despite his assertions, skepticism remains among local residents. Neighbours have expressed doubt about his background, stating that they have never seen him in military uniform or observed him leaving for any formal employment. They also deny any familial connection with him, despite his occasional presence at the residence where he stays.
According to some locals, Goyal has been seen in the area for nearly 15 years, yet his true identity remains unclear. The conflicting narratives have intensified the mystery surrounding his life.
As Goyal receives medical care under military supervision, attention has now shifted to uncovering the truth behind his past. Whether he is indeed a former educator at a premier defence institution or a man with an unverified story remains an open question. The case underscores not only the fragility of human circumstances but also the urgent need for clarity, accountability, and compassion in addressing such complex situations.
