According to the latest counting trends, the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading with approximately 194 seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark in the 294-member assembly. The ruling Trinamool Congress is trailing with around 92 seats, signaling a major electoral setback.
The political narrative gains further significance when viewed geographically. Beginning in Uttarakhand, where the BJP currently holds power, the Ganga flows through Uttar Pradesh, also governed by the BJP, and then into Bihar, where a BJP-led administration is in place. With West Bengal now appearing to follow the same trajectory, the party is poised to control governance across the entire river belt.
The counting process is underway for 293 out of 294 constituencies in West Bengal, with results now largely indicating a clear outcome. The elections were conducted in two phases, with voting for 152 seats held on April 23 and the remaining 142 seats on April 29.
The contest was primarily between the incumbent Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who aimed to secure a fourth consecutive term, and the BJP, which aggressively campaigned to establish its first government in the state since India’s independence.
