Nagpur Gym Incident: 23-Year-Old Om Bhoyar Collapses After Deadlift Attempt, Saved by Timely Medical Intervention
A 23-year-old Nagpur man collapsed after intense gym exercise and suffered a brain clot, but timely action by his nurse mother during the Golden Hour led to life-saving treatment and recovery, highlighting risks of excessive workouts without supervision.
Om Bhoyar had spent several hours exercising at the gym before returning home. When he suddenly lost consciousness, his mother, Aarti Bhoyar, a nurse by profession, immediately recognized the signs of a paralytic attack from a possible brain hemorrhage. Aware that the ‘Golden Hour’—the first 3-4 hours of paramount importance in such medical situations—was rapidly elapsing, she rushed him to the hospital without delay.
At the hospital, diagnostic tests revealed a blood clot in his brain. Doctors proceeded with a mechanical thrombectomy procedure to remove the clot. The intervention restored smooth blood flow to his brain, significantly aiding his recovery and preventing further neurological damage.
Following the timely procedure and sustained medical care, Om Bhoyar’s condition improved rapidly. He was discharged from the hospital on April 21, marking a successful recovery attributed to swift recognition and immediate action during the critical window.
The case serves as a reminder of the ill-effects of excessive exercise beyond physical capacity or without expert supervision. A hemorrhagic stroke, wherein a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and causes blood to leak into surrounding tissues, can sever the connection between relevant parts of the brain and associated body parts, leading to paralysis. However, with timely intervention, the accumulated blood can be removed through medication or surgery, mitigating the effects of paralysis and increasing the chances of recovery.
