According to Bera, Trump has failed to understand that the foundation of the United States is built on the hard work and sacrifices of immigrants. He added that such language is not only offensive but also undermines the contributions of millions of Indian-Americans who form a crucial backbone of the US economy and technology sector. The remark has reportedly sparked feelings of anger and insecurity among more than 4 million people of Indian origin in the country.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also lodged a strong objection to the comments shared by Trump. In a measured yet firm response, the ministry stated that the remarks were “based on completely incorrect information, inappropriate, and reflective of poor thinking.”
The controversy has further escalated with Iran entering the fray and openly mocking Trump. The Iranian Consulate General in Mumbai shared a video on social media showcasing Maharashtra’s rich cultural and natural heritage. In a pointed remark, Iran suggested that Trump should visit India for a “cultural detox” to stop making “random nonsense.” The consulate added bluntly, “Come to India and see, then speak.”
