The teenager allegedly sneaked into a senior Indian Revenue Service officer’s residence in South Delhi’s upscale Kailash Hills using a spare key. According to his statement, “Agar didi paise de deti to aisa nahi hota (If sister had given the money, this would not have happened),” repeatedly asserting that “it just happened.”
Rahul Meena had worked as a house help at the IRS officer’s residence for eight months, earning Rs 20,000 along with bonuses, before being asked to leave due to his habit of borrowing money from domestic workers in the neighbourhood and goods from shopkeepers.
On Tuesday evening, Meena attended a wedding in Alwar with a friend he would play Ludo with. Later that night, he returned to the village alone, went to the same friend’s house, allegedly sexually assaulted his wife, and stole a mobile phone. In an attempt to avoid suspicion and prevent being traced, he sold three mobile phones, including his own and those of his family members, and hired a cab to Delhi for Rs 6,000, using part of the money for online betting.
Upon reaching Delhi, he reportedly left without paying the driver and walked to his former employer’s house. There, he allegedly sexually assaulted and killed the 22-year-old daughter of the IRS officer. The victim, an IIT graduate, was preparing for the Union Public Service Commission examination in a rooftop study when Meena entered.
When questioned about his presence, he claimed, “Aunty ne bulaya tha kaam se (Aunty called me for some work).” He then demanded money. When the woman refused, a heated argument broke out, which turned violent. Meena struck her with a lamp, causing injuries across her face and body, and strangled her with a mobile charging cable.
The accused then allegedly raped the woman while she was unconscious. He dragged her downstairs to a room containing a locker and attempted to open it using the victim’s blood-stained finger on a biometric scanner. According to police sources, the scanner failed to recognise the thumb impression, possibly because the victim had already died.
Meena then broke the locker using a screwdriver, stole cash and jewellery, changed his blood-stained pants and shoes, and fled. Before Judicial Magistrate Deepika Thakaran, he stated, “Mujhse apradh ho gaya... Galti ho gayi (I committed a crime, a mistake),” after which the court allowed the Delhi Police’s plea seeking four days of custodial interrogation.
Police sources indicate that Meena has shown no signs of remorse, exhibiting a calm and composed demeanor throughout the investigation and repeatedly changing his statements. When asked why he attacked the victim, he said, “I came with the intent of stealing money and jewellery. But didi started shouting, resisting, and stopping me. I hit her with a lamp and she fell unconscious.” He reiterated, “Main maarna nahi chahta tha par ho gaya (I didn’t want to kill her, but it just happened).”
When questioned about fear or regret, he maintained that he wanted money “anyhow.” Despite acknowledging the kindness of the family, stating, “Wo log to mere liye bhagwan the. Bahut ache the dono. Lekin mujhe paisa chahiye tha (They were like gods to me. Both were very good. But I wanted money),” he admitted he was aware he would be caught but proceeded because he wanted the money to reach his family.
Investigators suspect that Meena may have intended to commit sexual assault, citing the alleged rape of another woman in Alwar just hours before the Delhi crime.
According to sources, the Delhi Police is likely to conduct a psycho-analysis of the accused to evaluate his mental state, behavioural patterns, and possible motives. His unusual calmness and lack of remorse have prompted this step. The analysis will assess aggression levels, emotional responses, and traits linked to conditions such as Antisocial Personality Disorder.
The autopsy report conducted at AIIMS Delhi confirmed that the victim died due to strangulation. It revealed multiple injuries, including bruises on her arms, hands, legs, and face, as well as a fracture of the nasal bone. Doctors also found bleeding in the neck muscles and fractures in parts of the thyroid cartilage, indicating death due to asphyxia caused by strangulation. All internal organs were reported to be congested.
Several samples, including viscera, nail scrapings, blood samples, and swabs, have been preserved for further forensic testing to confirm sexual assault.
The case has exposed a chilling sequence of events spanning Alwar and Delhi, raising serious concerns about violent intent, criminal patterns, and the psychological profile of the accused, as investigators continue to piece together the full extent of the crime.
