India Marks 32nd Panchayati Raj Day with Nationwide Tributes and Andhra Achievements
India marks the 32nd Panchayati Raj Day, celebrating the 73rd Constitutional Amendment and grassroots governance. Andhra Pradesh leads with record gram sabhas, national awards, and rural initiatives, while leaders highlight panchayats’ vital role in development and women’s representation.
The occasion underscored the enduring significance of decentralized administration as leaders across the country paid tribute to the transformative reform that institutionalized local self-governance. The 73rd Constitutional Amendment continues to serve as the legal and administrative backbone for empowering rural bodies and ensuring participatory democracy at the village level.
In Andhra Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan led standout efforts since June 2024, setting a benchmark in grassroots engagement and administrative execution. The state recorded a world-record 13,326 gram sabhas conducted in one day, alongside the establishment of thousands of cow shelters and farm ponds. These initiatives contributed to Andhra Pradesh securing five national awards, elevating the state to first place in recognition of its achievements in rural governance and development.
National leaders highlighted the critical role of panchayats in driving rural transformation. Home Minister Amit Shah praised the contribution of local bodies in strengthening development frameworks and ensuring governance reaches the grassroots. Congress figures, meanwhile, credited Rajiv Gandhi’s push for women’s reservations, noting that these efforts have enabled 15 lakh representatives to participate actively in governance, significantly enhancing inclusivity in decision-making processes.
As India commemorates Panchayati Raj Day, the observance not only reflects on the constitutional empowerment of local bodies but also reinforces their central role in shaping rural development, democratic participation, and administrative accountability across the country.
