Little Andaman Pro 2026: A Historic Surge for Indian Surfing and Adventure Tourism

The Department of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration and the Surfing Federation of India host the historic Little Andaman Pro 2026 at Butler Bay Beach. Featuring 86 top surfers and SUP athletes, this national championship marks a significant advancement for India’s adventure tourism and competitive surfing circuit, utilizing world-class reef conditions to elevate national talent.

The pristine shores of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are witnessing a monumental shift in India's sporting landscape as the Department of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in collaboration with the Surfing Federation of India, launches the inaugural ‘Little Andaman Pro 2026.’ This national-level surfing championship, scheduled from April 9 to 12, 2026, transforms the picturesque Butler Bay Beach into a high-stakes arena, marking an unprecedented leap forward for water sports and adventure tourism within the Union Territory.

Formally inaugurated by Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, the Little Andaman Pro 2026 – National Surf & SUP Championship represents a sophisticated convergence of elite athleticism and administrative vision. The opening ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Administration, representatives of the Surfing Federation of India, and a massive assembly of surfers from across the nation, all gathering to witness the official commencement of this four-day competitive spectacle.

Presented by Andaman & Nicobar Tourism and organized by the Surfing Federation of India, the championship serves as a premier platform for India’s top-ranked surfers and stand-up paddle athletes. The competition features approximately 86 participants, including international competitors, vying for dominance in the Senior Division across four distinct categories: Men’s Open Surfing Shortboard, Women’s Open Surfing Shortboard, Men’s Open Stand-Up Paddleboard, and Women’s Open Stand-Up Paddleboard.

This event is a cornerstone in the expansion of India’s competitive surfing circuit, intentionally designed to challenge athletes with technically demanding reef conditions that differ significantly from the typical beach breaks of mainland India. Arun Vasu, President of the Surfing Federation of India, emphasized that this milestone strengthens the National Surf Series and provides the essential exposure required for Indian athletes to progress toward international excellence. A senior official from Andaman & Nicobar Tourism echoed this sentiment, noting that the event highlights the incredible natural potential of the islands while simultaneously advocating for sustainable tourism and responsible engagement with the marine ecosystem.

The natural advantages of Little Andaman—characterized by crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and consistent swell patterns—position the region as an emerging global hub for ocean sports. Beyond the immediate competition, the championship aims to ignite local community engagement by fostering training, employment, and participation within a burgeoning ocean sports ecosystem. As the Little Andaman Pro 2026 unfolds, it scripts a new chapter for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, celebrating the spirit of the ocean while firmly establishing a conservation-driven approach to world-class adventure sports.
