District Magistrate Cracks Down on Gas Agency After Consumer Complaint; FIR Lodged for Major Irregularities in Bettiah
Bettiah DM Taranjot Singh ordered an FIR against Maa Sharde HP Gas Agency after a surprise inspection revealed a backlog of 200+ LPG cylinders and stock irregularities. Prompted by a consumer complaint, the crackdown in West Champaran warns gas distributors of imprisonment for arbitrary service denials, ensuring no shortage of LPG for the public.
During the rigorous investigation, DM Taranjot Singh discovered a backlog of over 200 LPG cylinders accumulated between March 18 and March 31. It was revealed that the agency had failed to deliver gas to consumers within the stipulated timeframe. When the District Magistrate demanded an explanation for this delay from the agency manager, the official was unable to provide a satisfactory response. Consequently, the DM directed the immediate filing of an FIR to address the lapse in service and accountability.
Following the DM's instructions, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate engaged with other consumers present at the site, who confirmed that many individuals were systematically denied timely gas deliveries. Furthermore, the inspection unearthed significant discrepancies in the gas stock and gross irregularities in the maintenance of official registers. These systemic failures have raised serious questions regarding the operational integrity of the Maa Sharde HP Gas Agency.
In light of these findings, District Magistrate Taranjot Singh issued a stern warning, clarifying that there is no shortage of LPG cylinders in the district. He emphasized that any gas agency found harassing consumers or acting arbitrarily will face rigorous legal action, including the filing of FIRs and potential imprisonment. While the administrative crackdown has caused a stir among agencies in West Champaran, the general public has widely lauded the District Magistrate’s proactive initiative to ensure essential service delivery.
