India welcomes the United States–Iran ceasefire, stressing the need for lasting peace in West Asia and uninterrupted global commerce through the Strait of Hormuz, while highlighting the humanitarian and economic impact of the conflict.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs expressed hope that it will lead to a lasting peace in West Asia and unimpeded freedom of navigation and global flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz. The Ministry underscored the strategic importance of the development, particularly in ensuring stability in vital maritime routes that are central to global trade and energy movement.
The Ministry stated that India has continuously advocated de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy, which are essential to bring an early end to the ongoing conflict. It reiterated that peaceful engagement remains the most viable path to resolving tensions and preventing further deterioration of the situation.
It added that the conflict has already caused immense suffering to people and disrupted global energy supply and trade networks. The statement highlighted the broader economic and humanitarian consequences of prolonged hostilities, reinforcing the urgency of sustained peace efforts.
The development marks a significant moment in efforts to stabilise West Asia, with India emphasising that a durable ceasefire is critical not only for regional peace but also for safeguarding global economic stability and uninterrupted trade flows.
