Section 144 Enforced Around Balrampur Collectorate Ahead of Sensitive Caste Verification Committee Meeting
Balrampur district authorities in Chhattisgarh have enforced Section 144 within 500 metres of the Collectorate ahead of a sensitive caste certificate verification committee meeting on 11 December 2025. The move follows previous disruptions involving crowds, sloganeering, and highway blockages, prompting strict preventive measures.
During the earlier meeting, large crowds had gathered outside the Collector’s office, leading to intense sloganeering, blockage of the main entrance, and even disruption of traffic on the adjoining highway. With the possibility of a repeat of such scenes, authorities have opted for pre-emptive restrictions to deter mass gatherings, ensure public order, and maintain the operational continuity of government offices.
Announcing the enforcement of Section 144, the District Collector stated that the measure is intended to preserve public peace and safeguard government property from potential damage. The order prohibits assemblies and activities that could escalate tension or obstruct official proceedings, especially as the caste verification process often draws significant public engagement and strong sentiments.
By invoking these prohibitory measures, the administration aims to prevent any recurrence of crowd-related disorder and to ensure that the verification committee’s meeting proceeds without interruption. The decision underscores the district’s broader commitment to balancing public participation with the need to uphold law, order, and the integrity of institutional processes.
