Hardik Pandya Set for Shock IPL 2027 Move as Punjab Kings Near Mega Trade Deal
Hardik Pandya could leave Mumbai Indians for Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2027 as trade talks reportedly reach the final stages. Arshdeep Singh and Vishnu Vinod could move to MI in a major player exchange.
According to reports, discussions between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings over a potential player trade involving Pandya have reached the final stages. The proposed deal could see the star all-rounder move to Punjab, while Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod are likely to join Mumbai Indians.
Punjab Kings are reportedly close to completing the agreement through the IPL trade window, with the franchise's negotiations with Mumbai Indians progressing significantly under head coach Ricky Ponting.
Hardik Pandya Could Join Punjab Kings
According to a report by Sportstar, Punjab Kings have moved closer to securing Hardik Pandya through a major trade deal with Mumbai Indians.
The proposed transaction could involve a significant exchange of players between the two franchises. Under the reported arrangement, Arshdeep Singh and Vishnu Vinod are expected to move to Mumbai Indians in exchange for Pandya.
If the deal goes through, Arshdeep Singh would play for an IPL franchise other than Punjab Kings for the first time in his career.
Mumbai Indians Also Explored Trades With Other Franchises
Mumbai Indians had reportedly explored the possibility of trading Hardik Pandya with at least three other IPL franchises.
Apart from Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were the only other franchise with which Mumbai Indians had advanced discussions over a potential deal.
The negotiations involved considerations of multiple player exchanges in return for Pandya. However, those discussions ultimately failed to produce a concrete outcome.
Punjab Kings Retained Arshdeep Singh for Rs 18 Crore
Punjab Kings had released Arshdeep Singh ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, the franchise subsequently used its Right to Match (RTM) card to bring the left-arm fast bowler back into the squad.
During the auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) raised their bid for Arshdeep from Rs 15.75 crore to Rs 18 crore.
Punjab Kings then matched the Rs 18 crore offer through the RTM card, retaining the services of the left-arm fast bowler.
Hardik Pandya's Captaincy and Mumbai Indians' Declining Performance
Hardik Pandya returned to Mumbai Indians through an all-cash deal from Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of IPL 2024.
Before his return to Mumbai, Pandya had spent two highly successful seasons with Gujarat Titans. In 2022, he led the franchise to the IPL title in its debut season.
However, his return as Mumbai Indians captain did not produce the expected results.
Under his leadership, the team's performance continued to decline, with Mumbai Indians finishing ninth in the IPL 2026 points table.
The disappointing campaign reportedly intensified speculation about Pandya's future with the franchise, bringing the possibility of his departure into focus ahead of IPL 2027.
If the reported trade is finalised, the move would mark a significant change for both franchises, with Mumbai Indians potentially parting ways with their captain and Punjab Kings moving closer to securing one of the league's leading all-rounders.
