ED Intensifies Probe into CMRL–Exalogic Financial Dealings Following Multi-State Raids in Kerala
The Enforcement Directorate has intensified its probe into alleged financial irregularities involving CMRL and Exalogic Solutions following raids across Kerala. The investigation includes fund tracing, account freezes, and political fallout, with escalating tensions and protests across the state amid allegations of unlawful transactions and violence linked to the case.
Exalogic Solutions, a now-defunct information technology company, was owned by Veena T, daughter of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Following the raids, officials are currently scrutinizing seized documents and digital records to determine the next course of action. Sources indicate that notices are likely to be issued to Veena T and other individuals for questioning in the coming days. Investigators are also expected to expand the probe to include persons and entities allegedly linked to suspicious fund transfers originating from CMRL.
The Enforcement Directorate carried out searches at 10 locations across Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kannur, and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, as well as Bengaluru in Karnataka.
Authorities allege that CMRL made an unlawful payment of Rs 1.72 crore to Exalogic Solutions between 2018 and 2019, despite the firm reportedly providing no services in return. Earlier, in January 2019, the Income Tax Department conducted searches on CMRL and identified financial irregularities amounting to Rs 132.82 crore through inflated expenditure claims.
During subsequent operations, the Enforcement Directorate froze approximately Rs 18 crore spread across 242 bank accounts. Among the frozen accounts is one linked to Veena T containing around Rs 1.5 lakh.
The developments have triggered a sharp political divide in Kerala, with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Left Democratic Front intensifying their defence of the Chief Minister and his daughter. Following initial protests by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Left Democratic Front has decided to expand its agitation statewide, with protest marches planned at district headquarters across Kerala. The state leadership has also directed local units to actively participate in demonstrations organised by the alliance.
The Left Democratic Front has alleged that the Enforcement Directorate’s action is politically motivated and aimed at targeting non-Bharatiya Janata Party leaders through central investigative agencies. Leaders have described the proceedings involving the former Chief Minister’s daughter as part of a broader political vendetta.
Meanwhile, police have registered cases against approximately 300 individuals in connection with violence reported outside the Enforcement Directorate office in Thiruvananthapuram. Five individuals have been arrested so far.
According to the First Information Report filed on the basis of a complaint by an Enforcement Directorate Assistant Director, the accused formed an unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapons and attacked Enforcement Directorate officials and security personnel. The report alleges that slogans calling for the killing of officials were raised during the incident. It further states that the vehicle carrying Enforcement Directorate officials was attacked, an officer was injured with sticks, and attempts were made to assault the driver using bricks. Police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel who intervened were also allegedly attacked with stones and sticks.
The investigation continues to deepen amid heightened political tension, widening financial scrutiny, and allegations of coordinated attacks on federal investigative authorities, making the case one of the most closely watched legal and political developments in Kerala.
