India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar hosted United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi for the high-level Quad meeting aimed at reinforcing strategic coordination among the four nations.
A major outcome of the discussions was the announcement of the U.S.-India Critical Minerals Framework, a significant initiative designed to expand bilateral cooperation in mining and rare earth supply chains. The framework seeks to reduce dependence on China in the critical minerals sector while supporting broader Quad-wide efforts to build resilient and secure supply networks.
The ministers also reviewed collaborative measures to enhance maritime security in the Indo-Pacific, strengthen regional energy resilience, and accelerate diversification of global supply chains. The meeting underscored the Quad’s increasing focus on strategic and economic cooperation as tensions continue to shape the regional security landscape.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi separately held bilateral meetings with Penny Wong and Toshimitsu Motegi during the diplomatic engagements in New Delhi. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in defense, trade, and emerging technologies between India, Australia, and Japan.
During the talks, Modi confirmed his upcoming visit to Australia and also emphasized the importance of expanding uranium trade cooperation, highlighting India’s growing strategic and energy partnerships with Quad members.
The New Delhi meeting marked another significant step in the Quad’s efforts to consolidate its role in the Indo-Pacific region, with member nations intensifying collaboration on security, technology, and economic resilience amid shifting global power dynamics.
