Addressing the gathering through the call, President Trump described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a friend and declared that ties between the two nations had never been so close. Trump said he loves India and even called himself a “big fan” of PM Modi. Reinforcing Washington’s support for New Delhi, the US President stated that India can count on him “100 per cent.”
During the event, Ambassador Sergio Gor held his phone to a microphone so the audience could hear Trump’s remarks directly. The programme was attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Ambassador Sergio Gor.
Trump’s remarks came amid Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s four-day visit to India, a visit marked by a series of high-level diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation. Rubio met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, followed by meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval yesterday.
