CBSE Admits Physics Answer Sheet Mix-Up After Delhi Student Flags Major Evaluation Error

A Delhi Class 12 student uncovered a major Central Board of Secondary Education evaluation error after receiving another student’s Physics answer sheet during revaluation. The board admitted a technical glitch linked to the new On-Screen Marking system, prompting intervention from Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan amid fears over college admissions and examination credibility.

A Class 12 student from Delhi exposed a serious evaluation lapse in the Central Board of Secondary Education examination process after discovering that the Physics answer sheet shown during revaluation did not belong to him. The student, Vedant Shrivastava, identified clear differences in handwriting and answers when comparing the Physics document with his answer sheets from other subjects, triggering widespread concern over the reliability of the board’s newly introduced digital assessment system.

The Central Board of Secondary Education acknowledged the error on May 25 and admitted that a technical glitch had led to the mismatch of answer sheets during the revaluation process. Officials assured that corrected results would be issued after verification and review. The board also confirmed that similar complaints raised by other students, including a candidate identified as Sanjana regarding her Chemistry answer sheet, were found to be valid.

The controversy has intensified scrutiny of the newly implemented On-Screen Marking system, which was introduced to streamline evaluation procedures for nearly 18.5 lakh students appearing in the examinations. However, the rollout has reportedly been marred by multiple operational failures, including blurry scanned copies of answer sheets, repeated portal crashes, delays in accessing documents, and widespread dissatisfaction among students and parents.

The issue has gained further significance amid concerns over lower pass percentages and the growing pressure on students seeking admission to colleges and universities. Following mounting criticism, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan directed experts from the Indian Institutes of Technology to address the technical shortcomings in the evaluation system. The minister also ordered a reduction in revaluation fees and sought a comprehensive report on the failures to ensure that students’ academic futures and admission opportunities are not affected.

The incident has raised serious questions about the credibility and preparedness of the digital evaluation framework adopted for one of India’s largest school examination systems. With multiple complaints now emerging, the controversy has placed the Central Board of Secondary Education under increasing pressure to restore confidence in the examination and revaluation process before the ongoing admission cycle progresses further.
