In a social media post, the Prime Minister stated that the artist presented his work on Varanasi during his visit to Rome. He noted that Tomassetti’s passion for Indian culture spans more than four decades. According to the Prime Minister, the Italian painter began his artistic journey in the 1980s as an illustrator for books on Vedic culture. He further highlighted that between 2008 and 2013, Tomassetti created 23 large-scale paintings inspired by the Mahabharata.
In another post, Prime Minister Modi also appreciated the enthusiasm of five Italian nationals for Indian dance forms. He observed that it is encouraging to see Indian dance traditions attracting growing international interest, adding that Indian music is also becoming increasingly popular in Italy.
The Prime Minister further underscored cultural engagement during a community welcome event held in Rome the previous evening, where five Italian artistes performed the Indian classical raga Hamsadhwani, reflecting a deepening appreciation of Indian artistic traditions abroad.
The remarks collectively highlight the expanding cultural bridge between India and Italy, driven by sustained artistic collaboration, shared appreciation of heritage, and growing global resonance of Indian classical art forms.
