Multinational Military Exercise PRAGATI 2026 Begins in Meghalaya with Participation of 12 Nations
Multinational military exercise PRAGATI 2026 has commenced at Umroi Military Station in Meghalaya with participation from 12 friendly nations. The two-week drill focuses on counter-terrorism operations in semi-mountainous and jungle terrain, strengthening interoperability, tactical skills and military cooperation among participating armies through joint training and coordinated exercises.
The participating countries include Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam, all joining the exercise to strengthen professional military cooperation and enhance collective preparedness.
According to the Defence Ministry, the exercise provides a common platform for participating armies to engage in structured professional exchange, learn from one another’s operational experience, and strengthen military-to-military relations across the region.
At the opening ceremony, Additional Director General of Infantry of the Indian Army, Major General Sunil Sheoran, welcomed all participating contingents. He emphasized the importance of collective engagement in addressing contemporary security challenges and urged participants to maintain openness, mutual respect, and a strong willingness to learn from shared experiences.
The two-week programme is focused on counter-terrorism operations in semi-mountainous and jungle terrain. It includes joint planning exercises, tactical drills, and coordinated field operations designed to enhance adaptability, endurance, and tactical proficiency among all participating troops.
The exercise is expected to significantly deepen operational understanding and interoperability among friendly nations, reinforcing regional security cooperation through structured military engagement and shared training objectives.
