Police officials stated that the incident occurred when the victim had gone to play in a nearby garden. The officer allegedly approached the child, engaged in indecent behavior in her presence, and coerced her into touching his private parts. Traumatized by the encounter, the girl ran home and narrated the incident to her mother. The victim’s mother, employed as a domestic worker, promptly reported the matter to the Worli Police Station. A police team was immediately dispatched to the location, and based on preliminary questioning and identification, the accused officer was taken into custody within hours of the complaint being filed.
The investigation has since expanded after another minor boy approached authorities with similar allegations. He claimed that approximately a week earlier, the same officer had subjected him to comparable inappropriate conduct. Police have incorporated this testimony into the ongoing probe and initiated a separate inquiry to verify the additional claims. Authorities have booked the accused under Sections 74 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 12 of the POCSO Act. A senior police official emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and stated that swift action was taken to ensure a stringent legal process. However, investigators face a major challenge due to the absence of CCTV cameras at Singh Garden, making the case heavily reliant on witness statements and forensic evidence.
The accused officer, originally from Nagpur, had been posted in Mumbai since November 2025 and was attached to the office of the Director General of Police. He was working in the Police Communication and Information Technology Department and was residing alone at the Worli Police Camp at the time of the incident. The arrest of a senior police officer in such a grave case has triggered widespread concern over internal discipline, monitoring mechanisms, and institutional accountability within law enforcement agencies. Mumbai Police have assured that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly from all angles to ensure justice is delivered.
