Tragedy in Brandenburg: Telangana Student Dies After Fatal Leap to Escape New Year’s Eve Fire

A 22-year-old Indian student from Telangana, Thokala Hruthik Reddy, tragically died in Germany on New Year’s Eve after jumping from his burning apartment in Brandenburg. Reddy, a Master’s student at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences, suffered fatal head injuries. His family is now seeking urgent government assistance for the repatriation of his remains to India.

A festive New Year’s Eve turned into a harrowing tragedy for the Indian student community in Germany as a 22-year-old engineering student from Telangana lost his life while attempting to escape a massive apartment blaze. Thokala Hruthik Reddy, a native of Malkapur village in the Jangaon district, died from critical injuries sustained after jumping from his burning residence in Brandenburg, near Berlin. As the fire rapidly consumed his floor, leaving the young scholar with no viable escape route through the building’s corridors, Reddy made the desperate decision to leap from the structure. Despite being rushed to a nearby medical facility by emergency responders, he succumbed to severe head trauma shortly after arrival.

Reddy had moved to Germany to further his academic ambitions, enrolling in a Master’s program at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Potsdam. Prior to his move to Europe, he had successfully completed his undergraduate engineering degree at a private institution in Warangal. While German authorities have confirmed the fatality and notified the family, the precise cause of the inferno remains under investigation. The sudden loss has left his hometown of Malkapur in mourning, with his grieving relatives now navigating the complex administrative hurdles of international repatriation.

The family has issued an urgent appeal to the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian diplomatic missions in Germany to expedite the process of bringing Reddy’s remains back to Telangana. Local leaders and community members have joined in the call for government intervention, highlighting the immense emotional and financial toll such an incident places on families back home. This tragedy underscores the vulnerabilities faced by the international student diaspora and the critical importance of robust emergency support systems for citizens living abroad. As the investigation into the fire continues, the incident serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictability of life far from home, leaving a community to grapple with the void left by a promising young life cut short.
