Rajasthan Congress Chief Dismisses BJP’s Two-Year Review as “Political Theatre,” Levels Sharp Governance Critique

Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra has slammed the BJP government’s two-year review press conference as “political theatre,” accusing it of masking failures in healthcare, agriculture, education, employment and welfare schemes, and misleading the public with inflated claims.

Jaipur — Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra on Wednesday launched a sweeping attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government, dismissing its press conference marking two years in office as little more than political theatre aimed at obscuring administrative failures.

Addressing the media in Jaipur, Dotasra said the government’s presentation of achievements was a carefully choreographed exercise that bore little resemblance to realities on the ground. Drawing a parallel with earlier controversies surrounding the chief minister’s appointment, he alleged that the current leadership continues to function on directions from New Delhi rather than through independent governance. According to him, the claims showcased during the press conference were based on inflated figures and selective narratives designed to mislead the public.

Dotasra accused the state government of abandoning key commitments made in its election manifesto, arguing that essential public services have deteriorated sharply over the past two years. He claimed that Rajasthan’s healthcare system is under severe strain, citing the exclusion of hospitals from the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS) and warning that several medical colleges are facing operational crises due to administrative neglect.

The Congress leader also highlighted agrarian distress, alleging that farmers across the state are bearing the brunt of policy failures. He said cultivators are being forced to stand in long queues with Aadhaar cards to obtain fertilisers, while promised minimum support prices for crops such as bajra and wheat have not materialised. Dotasra further noted that the pledge to increase the annual farmer assistance amount to ₹12,000 remains unfulfilled. He questioned the state agriculture minister’s engagement with affected farmers, alleging an absence of on-ground outreach in severely impacted areas.

Turning to the education sector, Dotasra criticised what he described as misplaced priorities within the state administration. He alleged that while symbolic directives are being issued by the education department, schools continue to face an acute shortage of teachers. He also raised concerns over alleged irregularities during examination-related transfers, claiming that financial misconduct has become routine.

Unemployment featured prominently in his critique, with Dotasra asserting that joblessness in Rajasthan has reached alarming levels. He said thousands of applicants are competing for a single vacancy, while recruitment processes, including those for fourth-grade government employees, remain incomplete despite repeated assurances.

Dotasra also accused the government of diluting welfare measures for the poor. He claimed that the Indira Rasoi programme has effectively disappeared, crop insurance schemes have stalled, food packet initiatives have been discontinued, and subsidies for new electricity connections have been withdrawn, adding to the financial burden on vulnerable households.

Concluding his remarks, Dotasra alleged that Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s press conference relied on rhetoric rather than substance, and was intended to divert attention from what he termed two years of administrative shortcomings. He said the growing gap between official claims and public experience underscores the need for accountability and transparency in governance.
