Junagadh’s Traffic Woes Spark Call for Railway Bypass, Says Shaktisinh Gohil

Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil has called for a railway bypass line in Gujarat’s Junagadh, citing severe traffic congestion caused by an old railway track running through the city. He said the move is essential to ease crossings, improve mobility, and promote tourism and urban development.

New Delhi: Highlighting persistent traffic bottlenecks in one of Gujarat’s most prominent cities, senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil has urged the government to construct a railway bypass line for Junagadh, arguing that outdated rail infrastructure is choking urban mobility and hampering tourism.

Gohil said that despite Junagadh’s historical importance and growing appeal as a tourist destination, the city continues to struggle with severe traffic congestion due to an old railway line that cuts through its urban core. Frequent railway crossings, he noted, disrupt daily life for residents and create prolonged delays for visitors, undermining both convenience and safety.

Calling for immediate intervention, the Congress leader appealed to the authorities to free Junagadh from recurring railway crossing-related disruptions by developing a dedicated bypass railway line outside the city limits. Such a project, he said, would significantly ease traffic pressure within the city while ensuring smoother movement for commuters and tourists alike.

Gohil emphasized that resolving the railway-induced congestion is not merely a traffic management issue but a crucial step toward sustainable urban development. Improved connectivity, he added, would enhance the overall visitor experience and support the city’s economic growth, particularly in the tourism sector.

The demand brings renewed attention to long-standing infrastructure challenges in Junagadh, placing the spotlight on the need for coordinated planning between urban development and railway authorities. As the city continues to expand, the proposed bypass railway line is being positioned as a strategic solution with the potential to reshape mobility, boost tourism, and improve quality of life for residents.
