Jhansi IG Rebukes Station House Officer Over Mishandling of Complaint, Warns of Suspension
Jhansi IG Akash Kulhari sharply reprimanded a local SHO over the phone for mishandling a victim’s complaint, warning that such conduct could lead to suspension. Senior officials hinted at strict action as the officer was cautioned to perform his duties responsibly in this case of alleged negligence.
According to officials, IG Kulhari questioned the SHO’s conduct and asked why the victim had been made to approach the police station instead of being reached out to proactively. Expressing displeasure, he remarked that such lapses could warrant suspension. His pointed query—“Should the victim come to you, or will you go to the victim?”—highlighted concerns regarding insensitive and inefficient grievance-handling practices at the police station level.
Authorities familiar with the incident said the SHO was issued a stern warning and instructed to fulfill his duties with greater responsibility. Senior officials have also indicated that stricter action may follow if such negligence recurs, signalling a push for improved accountability within the force.
The episode has renewed conversations around the responsiveness of local police units in Uttar Pradesh, with senior leadership emphasising the need for officers to adopt citizen-centric approaches. As the situation continues to draw scrutiny, the reprimand serves as a reminder of the growing intolerance for procedural lapses in cases involving public grievances.
