Bihar CM Urges House to Stand in Respect as Prem Kumar Assumes Speaker’s Chair

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar urged legislators to stand and formally welcome Prem Kumar as he assumed office as the unopposed Speaker of the Bihar Assembly. The gesture highlighted respect for the new Speaker and underscored the House’s collective confidence in his leadership during the Patna proceedings.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday called on members of the state Legislative Assembly to rise and formally welcome newly elected Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar, marking a ceremonial moment in the House. The brief but significant gesture came during the Assembly’s proceedings in Patna, where the Chief Minister underscored that the unanimous choice of Prem Kumar reflected the House’s collective faith in his leadership.

Addressing legislators, Nitish Kumar said the act of standing in unison symbolised not only respect for the Speaker but also recognition of his unopposed election to the constitutional post. He noted that the smooth transition of responsibility reinforced the democratic spirit of the Assembly and expressed confidence that Prem Kumar would uphold the dignity and impartiality associated with the office.

Prem Kumar, a veteran legislator, formally took charge amid warm acknowledgment from both the Treasury and Opposition benches. The moment underscored a rare display of unanimity in the House, highlighting the importance of maintaining decorum and institutional continuity within the state’s legislative framework.

The proceedings concluded with an atmosphere of goodwill, signalling a renewed commitment among lawmakers to support the Speaker in ensuring orderly conduct and meaningful debate in the Bihar Assembly.
