West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi administered the oath to Justice Ghuge during the ceremony. The proceedings included the reading of President Droupadi Murmu's warrant and the national anthem.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari presented Justice Ghuge with a floral bouquet and a portrait of Swami Vivekananda. Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also offered her congratulations.
Justice Ghuge had served as a judge of the Bombay High Court since 2013. He succeeds acting Chief Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty as the head of the Calcutta High Court.
After assuming office, Justice Ghuge pledged to address case backlogs, strengthen the use of technology to improve transparency, and maintain public trust in the judiciary.
His appointment places renewed focus on reducing pending cases, improving transparency through technology and reinforcing confidence in the judicial system as he takes charge of the Calcutta High Court.
