Woman Assaults Security Guard With Footwear Outside Delhi Police Station Over Street Dog's Death
A viral video from West Delhi's Kirti Nagar shows Jasmeet Kaur striking a security guard with her footwear outside a police station, accusing him of killing a street dog. Delhi Police are investigating both the dog's death and the assault as the incident intensifies the debate over street dog management and animal welfare in Delhi.
The incident, which took place on Friday at the entrance of the Kirti Nagar Police Station, was captured on video and quickly went viral across social media platforms, including X, Instagram, and YouTube. The footage shows the woman, identified as Jasmeet Kaur, confronting the security guard and repeatedly slapping him before striking him several times with her footwear while Delhi Police personnel stood nearby.
According to Delhi Police, officers received a complaint alleging that the security guard had attacked a street dog with an iron rod. The animal reportedly suffered severe injuries and later died. The dog was taken to a private veterinary hospital, where it was declared deceased.
Police said that the veterinary hospital has not yet provided any formal statement regarding the cause of the animal's death. Jasmeet Kaur, who is believed to be an animal rights activist, has not issued any official statement about the confrontation. The security guard has also not submitted a formal complaint against her for the alleged assault.
Delhi Police stated that they are examining both aspects of the incident: the alleged killing of the dog and the physical assault on the security guard. Officials said that appropriate legal action will be taken after the inquiry is completed.
Several reports indicated that the confrontation was linked to an earlier incident in which the street dog had allegedly bitten a passerby in the area. The security guard is said to have attempted to drive the animal away by striking it with a stick.
The viral video has sharply divided public opinion. Some social media users praised Kaur for taking a stand in defense of the animal, while others strongly criticized her for physically assaulting the guard and questioned why police officers present at the scene did not intervene.
The incident has unfolded against the backdrop of an increasingly heated debate in Delhi over the management of street dogs. In August 2025, protests erupted after the Supreme Court directed authorities to remove street dogs from public roads and relocate them to shelters, citing a rise in dog bite incidents and rabies cases.
The confrontation outside the Kirti Nagar Police Station has once again exposed the volatile emotions surrounding animal welfare and public safety in the national capital, raising urgent questions about accountability, law enforcement, and the limits of activism.
