Mammootty and Mohanlal Reunion Fuels Massive Expectations for ‘Patriot’ Ahead of May 1 Release
Patriot, starring Mammootty and Mohanlal, is set for a massive May 1 release with record-breaking expectations. The film’s strong pre-release buzz, high budget, and star-studded cast position it as a potential biggest Malayalam opener of 2026.
Marking a historic on-screen reunion, Patriot brings Mammootty and Mohanlal together in full-fledged roles for the first time since their 2008 film Twenty:20. After a 17-year gap, the collaboration has triggered widespread excitement among audiences and industry observers, with expectations that the film will secure the biggest Malayalam opening of 2026, irrespective of post-release reviews. Current projections indicate that the film is likely to record double-digit net earnings in India on its first day, potentially surpassing Mammootty’s previous opening day record of 6.25 crore net set by Turbo. If achieved, Patriot would become Mammootty’s first film to cross the 10 crore net mark on opening day in the domestic market.
The film’s international prospects are equally significant, driven by the strong fan base of both actors, particularly in the Middle East. This overseas appeal is expected to contribute substantially to the film’s global box office performance. However, precise projections remain uncertain at this stage due to ongoing regional conflicts that could impact ticket sales in key markets. Greater clarity on international earnings is expected once advance bookings commence.
Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, Patriot is produced by Anto Joseph and KG Anil Kumar. The film features a prominent ensemble cast including Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, Revathi, and Darshana Rajendran in pivotal roles. With a reported production budget of 136 crore, the project represents a major financial investment and underscores the scale and ambition associated with the film.
As the May 1 theatrical release approaches, Patriot remains under close watch from industry experts and audiences alike. Its box office performance is expected to serve as a key indicator of the commercial strength of star-driven Malayalam cinema, while also testing whether the long-awaited reunion of Mammootty and Mohanlal can translate unprecedented anticipation into record-breaking numbers.
