IMD Issues Heatwave Advisory as Temperatures Soar Across Multiple Indian Regions

The India Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave advisory as temperatures across northwest, central, and peninsular India range between 40°C and 44°C, with several regions recording above-normal levels. Authorities warn of rising health risks and urge preventive measures.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a comprehensive heatwave advisory as vast parts of the country continue to face rising temperatures and significantly above-normal conditions, raising concerns of an emerging heat stress situation.

According to the department, maximum temperatures across northwest, central, and peninsular India are currently ranging between 40 degrees Celsius and 44 degrees Celsius. In several regions, temperatures have been recorded at least 5 degrees Celsius above normal levels, indicating an intensifying heatwave pattern. The department warned that such extreme conditions can lead to serious health impacts, including dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

The meteorological agency stressed that early awareness and preventive measures are crucial to reducing heat-related illnesses. It advised the public to maintain adequate hydration, avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours, wear light and breathable clothing, and ensure special care for vulnerable groups such as children, elderly individuals, and outdoor workers.

The department further stated that no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over northwest India until the 27th of this month, suggesting a continuation of intense heat conditions in the immediate term.
