Key Witness in Asaram Bapu Case Sent to Judicial Custody After Police Remand; Fresh Cash Recovery and CCTV Evidence Surface
Mahendra Chawla, key witness in the Asaram Bapu case, has been sent to judicial custody after police remand. Authorities recovered ₹10 lakh more from alleged blackmail proceeds, while CCTV footage and forensic analysis of seized devices deepen the investigation. Police continue efforts to trace absconding suspects.
Providing details, Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters Satish Vats stated that during an additional two-day remand, investigators recovered another ₹10 lakh allegedly obtained through blackmail. This recovery adds to the mounting evidence against Chawla in the ongoing investigation.
Police efforts to apprehend Chawla’s nephew have so far been unsuccessful. During the remand period, law enforcement teams conducted raids at multiple suspected hideouts linked to the nephew. However, he managed to evade capture after learning about Chawla’s arrest and has since gone underground. Authorities confirmed that he remains at large.
The case has taken a significant turn with the emergence of CCTV footage. The footage reportedly shows Chawla’s brother, Devendra, carrying a bag containing ₹70 lakh from the residence of mediator Purn Sharma. This visual evidence is being treated as a crucial development in establishing the alleged financial transactions linked to the blackmail operation.
Police have also seized Chawla’s mobile phone and his vehicle from the scene. The phone has been sealed and sent for forensic examination to uncover additional evidence related to the alleged blackmail activities. Investigators are continuing their probe and pursuing further leads to strengthen the case.
The developments underscore the expanding scope of the investigation, with financial recoveries and digital evidence playing a central role in exposing the alleged network. Authorities remain actively engaged in the case, signaling further action in the coming days.
