Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai Rallies Support for Time-Bound Implementation of Women Reservation Act Ahead of 2029 Polls
Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai urges MPs, MLAs, and women's organizations to ensure the time-bound implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. As Parliament convenes a special session from April 16-18 for the Women Reservation Act, Sai emphasizes the state's leading role and the importance of securing women's rights before the 2029 polls during the Mahtari Gaurav Varsh.
The Chief Minister’s appeal coincides with an extension of the Parliament’s Budget Session, where a special three-day sitting from April 16 to 18 has been convened to process amendments to the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' specifically for its 2029 rollout. Sai characterized the upcoming parliamentary discussions as a landmark moment in the nation’s democratic history, noting that the unanimous passage of the legislation in 2023 serves as a testament to democratic unity and a collective mandate for empowerment. He urged Members of Parliament to play a constructive role in the House to facilitate the Act's implementation, while emphasizing to legislators that empowerment led by "Matru Shakti" remains vital for the holistic development of the country and the inclusion of women in meaningful decision-making processes.
Beyond the legislative halls, the Chief Minister sought to galvanize the grassroots by urging Chhattisgarh’s MLAs to strengthen the state’s voice and foster a positive atmosphere during these historic discussions. In letters to women’s organizations, Sai acknowledged their sustained efforts in driving social change and appreciated their role as catalysts for progress. He highlighted that the scheduled parliamentary exercise is a historic step toward empowering half the population, making the democratic framework more responsive. This push aligns with the 'Mahtari Gaurav Varsh' currently being observed in Chhattisgarh, a state the CM noted has consistently led in women's empowerment, evidenced by notable assembly participation and the visible impact of 50 per cent reservation in local bodies.
Chief Minister Sai further underscored the success of state-specific initiatives such as the 'Mahtari Vandan Yojana' and the 'Rani Durgavati Yojana' as evidence of the state's commitment to the cause. He called upon women’s groups to utilize their platforms to build a nationwide momentum, asserting that these organizations are not mere witnesses to change but architects of it. Concluding his appeal, the Chief Minister urged a unified front among all public representatives and women's groups, expressing absolute confidence that such collective efforts will usher in a transformative phase for Indian democracy and ensure the successful execution of the Women Reservation Act.
