Tamil Nadu Records Historic Voter Turnout of Over 84% in Assembly Elections

Tamil Nadu registers a record-breaking voter turnout of over 84 percent in Assembly elections, the highest since 1952. Peaceful polling across 234 constituencies highlights strong democratic participation, with DMK attributing the surge to electoral roll revisions under the Special Intensive Revision process.

Tamil Nadu witnessed a historic democratic milestone as voter turnout crossed 84 percent following the conclusion of polling across all 234 Assembly constituencies, marking the highest participation recorded in the state since 1952. Authorities confirmed that the polling process remained largely peaceful, with no major disruptions reported throughout the state.

The unprecedented turnout reflects a significant surge in electoral participation, surpassing all previous Assembly election records since independence. Election officials oversaw voting across diverse regions, ensuring smooth conduct and adherence to established protocols, contributing to the orderly completion of the electoral process.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) attributed the sharp increase in voter turnout to changes in the total electorate following the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The revision process, aimed at updating and refining voter lists, is believed to have played a crucial role in expanding voter inclusion and enhancing participation levels.

This record-breaking turnout underscores a renewed engagement in the democratic process among the electorate of Tamil Nadu. The scale of participation not only highlights the effectiveness of electoral roll revisions but also signals a heightened public interest in shaping the political future of the state.
