Key Accused in Social Media Influencer Kanchan Kumari Murder Deported and Arrested
Punjab Police have arrested Amritpal Singh Mehron, the main accused in the 2025 murder of influencer Kanchan Kumari, alias Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, following his deportation from the Middle East. Arrested at Delhi’s IGI Airport, the self-styled radical leader fled India after the sensational Bathinda killing. This breakthrough highlights the successful extradition efforts by OFTEC and central agencies.
The sensational case dates back to June 11, 2025, when Kanchan Kumari, widely recognized by her Instagram handle "Kamal Kaur Bhabhi," was abducted and murdered. Her body was later discovered abandoned inside a car in a parking lot at Adesh Hospital in Bathinda. Following the homicide, Mehron fled the country to the UAE to evade legal proceedings, prompting Bathinda Police to issue a lookout circular. Investigating authorities had previously arrested three accomplices in connection with the crime. Among them, Jaspreet Singh of Moga and Nimratjit Singh of Tarn Taran confessed to the killing, alleging they targeted Kumari for uploading "immoral and vulgar content that hurt the Sikh community's sentiments."
Evidence against the fugitive included a social media video that surfaced post-killing, in which Mehron purportedly admitted the influencer was murdered by two of his associates due to her "objectionable content" and issued chilling warnings to other content creators to refrain from similar activities. Police records also indicate that Mehron was accused of issuing threats to at least tw
o other Punjab-based women influencers. While official reports did not specify the exact country of deportation beyond the Middle East region, the DGP emphasized that the arrest resulted from tracing his location and initiating formal extradition proceedings.
The successful capture of Amritpal Singh Mehron underscores the relentless pursuit of justice by the Punjab Police against organized crime and anti-national elements. By securing the lead conspirator who orchestrated the abduction and murder before fleeing across borders, authorities have sent a definitive message regarding the reach of Indian law enforcement. DGP Gaurav Yadav reiterated a zero-tolerance policy, affirming that the department remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure Punjab while holding those who incite or execute violence accountable for their actions.
