Globally-renowned virtual band Gorillaz has officially announced a landmark debut tour of India, scheduling performances at Bangalore’s District Arena @ Terraform on January 23 and Mumbai’s Jio World Garden on January 27, 2027. Established in 1998 by prominent rock musician Damon Albarn and comic book artist Jamie Hewlett, the group is presented as a virtual entity featuring singer 2D, bassist Murdoc Niccals, guitarist Noodle, and drummer Russel Hobbs. Rumours regarding a potential Indian tour have been abound since the release of their ninth studio album, 'The Mountain,' earlier this year. This latest record not only centers the band’s developing lore within India as its characters navigate the country, but also serves as a sonic tribute to the region. The music for the album was recorded and inspired in India, featuring high-profile collaborations with iconic Indian singers Asha Puthli and Asha Bhosle, sitar maestro Anoushka Shankar, sarod stalwarts Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, and flautist Ajay Prasanna.

Damon Albarn expressed his long-standing ambition regarding the upcoming tour, stating that it has been and remains a dream of his to bring Gorillaz in all its technicolour glory to India. He further noted that this venture is just the beginning and expressed his anticipation for the e

xperience. The upcoming Indian shows will feature Albarn joined by the act’s full touring band alongside special guest performers, including many of their Indian collaborators. For ticketing, a pre-sale for Mastercard card holders will go live exclusively on the District app from 1 PM on April 13 until 1 PM on April 18, followed by the commencement of general ticket sales at 2 PM on April 18. Interested parties can follow the band or District and view the short film accompanying 'The Mountain' to understand the scope of the production. This tour marks a significant cultural milestone, bridging the gap between virtual storytelling and live global performance within the Indian landscape.
