Indian Cabinet Approves ₹41,533.81 Crore Nutrient Based Subsidy for Kharif 2026 Season
The Indian Cabinet, led by PM Modi, has approved a ₹41,533.81 crore Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) for P&K fertilisers for the Kharif 2026 season. This formal move aims to counter rising international prices and ensure farmers receive affordable DAP and NPKS grades from April to September 2026.
The government underscored that the subsidy for P&K fertilisers, which encompasses crucial Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and various NPKS grades, will be dispensed based on these newly approved rates. This strategy is specifically designed to guarantee the smooth and unint
errupted availability of essential nutrients to farmers at affordable price points. Since its inception on April 1, 2010, the NBS scheme has served as the primary vehicle for delivering 28 distinct grades of P&K fertilisers through a network of authorized manufacturers and importers, maintaining a critical balance between soil health and farmer profitability.
This high-level policy intervention is a direct response to prevailing international market trends affecting the prices of fertilisers and key raw inputs, including urea, DAP, Muriate of Potash (MOP), and sulphur. By notifying these rates, the government provides a clear fiscal framework for fertiliser companies, allowing them to maintain supply chains despite global cost pressures. This decision reinforces the administration's commitment to agrarian welfare, securing price stability for the upcoming sowing season and ensuring that the pillars of Indian agriculture remain resilient against global economic fluctuations.
