India Commissions INS Aridhaman Nuclear Submarine in Visakhapatnam, Strengthening Nuclear Deterrence
India commissions INS Aridhaman, a 7,000-tonne Arihant-class nuclear submarine, in Visakhapatnam, strengthening its nuclear triad and second-strike capability. The induction of INS Taragiri also highlights India’s push for self-reliance in warship building amid regional tensions.
INS Aridhaman, launched in 2021 with over 80% indigenous content, joins the Indian Navy as a critical component of sea-based nuclear deterrence. The vessel is equipped with K-15 and K-4 missiles, significantly enhancing India's operational strength beneath the seas. Its induction enables three operational SSBNs, reinforcing the nation’s second-strike capability and completing a crucial element of the nuclear triad.
The commissioning ceremony in Visakhapatnam also marks the induction of stealth frigate INS Taragiri, underscoring India's continued push toward self-reliance in warship building. This development comes amid regional tensions, further emphasizing the strategic and operational importance of strengthening indigenous defence infrastructure.
The addition of INS Aridhaman and INS Taragiri reflects a significant milestone in India's naval modernization efforts, reinforcing national security architecture while advancing self-reliance in defence production.
