Ducati Redefines the Rally Raid: Second-Gen DesertX Debuts with New V2 Heart

Ducati unveils the second-generation DesertX, featuring an all-new 890cc V2 engine, monocoque frame, and enhanced off-road suspension. Delivering 110hp and advanced 6-axis IMU electronics, the redesigned ADV is lighter and more agile. European deliveries begin April 2026. Discover the specs, design changes, and performance updates of the new Ducati DesertX.

BORGO PANIGALE, ITALY — Ducati has officially ushered in a new era for its off-road flagship, pulling the covers off the second-generation DesertX. This latest iteration is not merely a facelift but a comprehensive "ground-up" reimagining of the adventure motorcycle that first disrupted the middleweight segment in 2021. Built around the brand’s state-of-the-art 890cc V2 engine, the new DesertX bridges the gap between raw rally performance and sophisticated Italian engineering, incorporating extensive feedback from elite competitions like the Erzbergrodeo and the Mexican 1000.

At the core of this transformation is the departure from the previous 937cc Testastretta unit in favor of the more compact and lightweight V2 engine. While the displacement has decreased, the performance remains formidable, delivering 110hp and 92Nm of torque. Crucially, Ducati’s engineers have optimized the power delivery for technical terrain, ensuring that 70 percent of peak torque is available from just 3,000rpm. To further sharpen its off-road teeth, the six-speed gearbox features revised ratios, with shorter delivery in the first four gears for climbing obstacles and a longer sixth gear for improved fuel efficiency and comfort during high-speed transit.

The chassis has undergone a similarly radical shift. The traditional trellis frame makes way for an aluminum monocoque structure that utilizes the engine as a stressed member. This design choice significantly increases rigidity while contributing to a slimmer profile. This theme of weight optimization extends to the new 18-liter polymer fuel tank, which is lighter and positioned lower to drop the bike's center of gravity. Despite the addition of more robust technology, the DesertX maintains a lean profile with a wet weight (without fuel) of just 209kg, a slight reduction over the outgoing model.

Suspension duties are managed by fully adjustable KYB components, featuring a 46mm USD fork with 230mm of travel and a rear monoshock utilizing a unique full-floater linkage system with 220mm of travel. Braking performance is anchored by Brembo M4.32 monobloc calipers and new 305mm discs, specifically tuned for better modulation in dirt and gravel. True to its Dakar-inspired roots, the bike retains the iconic 21-inch front and 18-inch rear tubeless spoked wheel combination, shod in Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR rubber.

The technological suite is equally ambitious, powered by a 6-axis IMU that governs a sophisticated array of rider aids, including Cornering ABS, traction control, and wheelie control. Riders can toggle between six distinct modes—Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet, Enduro, and the high-performance Rally mode—all managed via a new 5-inch vertical TFT display designed for visibility while standing on the pegs. As European deliveries are slated to begin in April 2026, this second-generation DesertX stands as a testament to Ducati's commitment to the burgeoning adventure segment, offering a more accessible yet more capable machine for the modern explorer.
