India’s New Health Policy Shifts Focus to Prevention, Says BJP President J.P. Nadda

BJP president J.P. Nadda says India’s new health policy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi marks a major shift from treatment-focused care to disease prevention and health promotion, aiming to strengthen healthcare effectiveness and encourage healthier lifestyles nationwide.

New Delhi: Emphasising a fundamental change in India’s public health approach, Bharatiya Janata Party national president Jagat Prakash Nadda on Tuesday said the country’s new health policy marks a decisive move away from treatment-centric care towards disease prevention and health promotion.

Addressing the evolving priorities of India’s healthcare system, Nadda noted that earlier health policies were largely designed around curing illnesses after they occurred. In contrast, the new health policy introduced under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi places strong emphasis on preventing diseases and reducing health risks before they escalate into serious medical conditions.

He said the preventive approach is aimed at strengthening the overall effectiveness of healthcare delivery by reducing the burden on hospitals and medical infrastructure. According to Nadda, encouraging early intervention, awareness, and healthier lifestyles will play a key role in improving long-term public health outcomes across the country.

The BJP chief highlighted that the revised policy framework seeks to integrate preventive care into the everyday lives of citizens, thereby fostering a culture of wellness rather than reactive treatment. He added that such a shift is expected to not only enhance the efficiency of health services but also empower communities to take greater responsibility for their own health.

Concluding his remarks, Nadda underlined that the focus on disease prevention reflects a broader vision of sustainable healthcare reform, one that prioritises well-being, reduces avoidable medical costs, and supports the goal of building a healthier and more resilient society.
