Marco Rubio Says Only the United States Can Broker Peace in Russia–Ukraine Talks

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the Russia–Ukraine war is not America’s conflict, but asserts that only the United States has the diplomatic reach to speak with both sides and determine whether a peaceful resolution to the ongoing war is possible.

Washington, D.C.: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has underscored Washington’s central role in ongoing diplomatic efforts surrounding the Russia–Ukraine conflict, asserting that the United States is the only country capable of engaging both sides in meaningful dialogue to explore a peaceful resolution.

Speaking on the status of the negotiations, Rubio clarified that the war is not America’s own, but emphasized that global realities place the United States in a unique position of influence. According to him, there is only one nation on the planet that can simultaneously communicate with Moscow and Kyiv in a way that could determine whether the conflict can be brought to an end through diplomatic means—and that nation, he said, is the United States.

Rubio’s remarks highlight Washington’s continued involvement in high-level international diplomacy amid efforts to reduce hostilities and explore potential pathways toward de-escalation. While acknowledging that the conflict does not directly belong to the United States, his statement reflects the broader role American diplomacy continues to play in shaping conversations around peace, security, and international stability.

The comments come at a time when the Russia–Ukraine war remains unresolved, with global powers closely watching whether negotiations can gain momentum. Rubio’s assertion reinforces the idea that any meaningful progress toward peace is likely to depend on Washington’s ability to engage both sides and influence the direction of talks.
