Lovestruck Niece Steals ₹30 Lakh in Jewelry From Aunt’s Locker; Police Arrest Eloping Couple in Etawah

A woman in Etawah stole nearly ₹30 lakh in jewelry from her aunt’s locker to fund an elopement with her boyfriend. Police uncovered the couple’s plan and arrested both after a swift investigation. Learn how the romance-driven theft unfolded and was solved by Bakewar police.

A young woman in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, driven by the desire to marry her partner, allegedly siphoned off jewelry worth nearly ₹30 lakh from her aunt’s locker—piece by piece—before handing the stolen valuables to her boyfriend as part of a plan to elope. The scheme, however, collapsed when the family reported the missing ornaments and police swiftly traced the theft back to the couple.

According to officials, the woman had been staying with her aunt and gradually removed the gold jewelry over a period of time, hoping to fund the couple’s escape and marriage. Her boyfriend was preparing to sell the stolen items so they could leave the city together.

Upon receiving the complaint, officers at Bakewar police station launched an urgent inquiry. The investigation, led by Station House Officer Vipin Malik, quickly uncovered inconsistencies and ultimately revealed the duo’s involvement. Both the woman and her partner were taken into custody, and the stolen jewelry was recovered during the subsequent interrogation.

Senior Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Srivastava later briefed the media, detailing how the romance-driven plot had evolved into a calculated theft and how timely police action prevented the couple’s getaway.
