Seventeen IndiGo Flights Cancelled in Varanasi, Stranded Passengers Vent Anger at Airport Chaos

Seventeen IndiGo flights were cancelled at Varanasi airport, triggering major disruptions and anger among stranded passengers. With only six aircraft running and limited staff presence at help desks, travellers demanded immediate action and clearer communication from the airline and authorities.

A day of severe disruption unfolded at Varanasi’s airport on Monday after IndiGo abruptly cancelled 17 flights, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded and visibly frustrated. With only six aircraft operating through the day, the airline struggled to manage the surge of affected travellers, many of whom crowded around the IndiGo counters seeking clarity and assistance.

Passengers reported that airline staff were largely absent from the help desks, compounding confusion and heightening tempers as no immediate guidance or support was offered. Long queues formed inside the terminal as travellers tried to obtain information about rebooking options, refunds, or alternate arrangements. Several passengers expressed anger over the lack of communication and alleged mismanagement, urging authorities to intervene and hold the airline accountable for the massive travel disruption.

The large-scale cancellations triggered widespread resentment among those scheduled to fly for business engagements, medical reasons, and family commitments. Many complained that they had received little to no prior notice about the disrupted operations. Some travellers appealed to airport authorities and the district administration to ensure that IndiGo addresses the situation transparently and restores normal services promptly.

The episode highlights recurring concerns over flight management and passenger-handling standards during operational breakdowns. With travellers increasingly dependent on air connectivity in Varanasi, the incident has renewed calls for stricter oversight, clearer communication protocols, and better contingency planning by airlines operating at high-traffic airports.
