Unauthorized Settlement Cleared in Hapur as Police Expel 70 Families in Special Drive

A special police drive in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, led to the eviction of 70 families from makeshift huts in the Brijghat area after they failed to produce valid identity documents. Conducted on the Chief Minister’s directives, the operation aims to curb unauthorized settlements and strengthen routine verification measures.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district, authorities have removed 70 families from an informal settlement during a special enforcement drive conducted on the directions of the Chief Minister. The operation, carried out by local police, targeted groups living in makeshift huts in the Brijghat area who were unable to produce valid identity documents during verification.

According to officials, the campaign was part of a broader effort to identify potential illegal entrants and ensure compliance with state regulations. Police teams conducted door-to-door checks, reviewed available paperwork and questioned occupants about their origins. Those who failed to present any credible documentation were instructed to vacate the area and were subsequently sent back to their native locations.

Senior officers stated that the action was necessary to maintain law and order in a region that has seen a rise in unregulated temporary settlements. They stressed that such verification drives will continue at regular intervals to prevent unauthorized encroachments and to strengthen administrative oversight around sensitive zones, including Brijghat.

The clearance operation marks one of the more assertive steps taken by the district police in recent months. Officials maintain that sustained documentation checks and settlement monitoring are essential to safeguard public spaces and ensure that only legally verified residents occupy them. As similar campaigns are expected to follow, the development underscores the state government’s focus on tightening identity verification protocols and enforcing settlement laws more rigorously.
