28-Year-Old Pedestrian Electrocuted After Road Caves In Near Delhi Power Pole

A 28-year-old caregiver died after a road section caved in near an electricity pole in Surajmal Vihar, trapping him waist-deep and exposing him to an alleged live electrical current.

A 28-year-old pedestrian was electrocuted in Surajmal Vihar after a section of an unpaved road near an electricity pole on a divider reportedly caved in, trapping him up to his waist and bringing him into contact with a live wire, police said on Friday.

The incident took place on Thursday morning when Sandeep, a caregiver, was returning home after attending to an older person. According to the preliminary enquiry, Sandeep was crossing road number 58 when the unpaved section near an electricity pole reportedly gave way.

He fell into a nearly three-foot-deep pit and became trapped up to his waist. Police said an electric current was allegedly passing through the lower portion of the pole, causing Sandeep to suffer an electric shock and die at the spot.

Police received a PCR call regarding the incident at around 7:30 am. Police personnel reached the spot following the call and took Sandeep to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Sandeep lived with his aunt in Bihari Colony and worked as a caregiver at a house in Surajmal Vihar, police said. He travelled on foot every day to look after an older adult.

According to local information, workers filled the section of the road that had caved in with stones, debris and cement by the evening after the incident. The investigation remains focused on the circumstances that led to the road collapse and the alleged presence of electric current near the pole.
